Where is the Google Pixel 5a? Google has shocked everyone by unveiling the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Or, more accurately, pre-announcement. But where is the Pixel 5A? Is it stuck in traffic?
To be clear, this was not a full unveiling of the company’s next major smartphone line. We have no clue (officially confirmed) how many megapixels, GHz, pixels, and nits these phones are capable of producing. No YouTubers have been seen fondling Google’s upcoming flagship phone.
What we did receive was a strange press conference that included a summary of what the Pixel 6 has to offer, as well as a slew of beautifully arranged official pictures. All extremely thrilling – yet also a little strange.
Prepare for a flood of Google Pixel 5a news. After a rather quiet start to the summer, in which we’ve heard nothing about Google’s successor to the outstanding Google Pixel 4a, new indications point to the Pixel 5a arriving within the next month or two.

Google has previously stated that a Pixel 5a would be released, so it’s a matter of when not if. When the new phone does arrive, Google will have to bring its A-game, since there are some fantastic budget-priced phones on the market from OnePlus, Motorola, and Apple with the iPhone SE.
After some uncertainty early in the year, the Google Pixel 5a’s release date may be closer than we thought. Rumors spread that the Pixel 5a had been canceled owing to the chip scarcity hitting the consumer electronics sector. Aside from the uniqueness of the pre-announcement style itself, something has been overlooked here. Where is the Google Pixel 5a?
It’s been rumored
To begin, let us state unequivocally that the Google Pixel 5a exists. We’re as confident as we can be in the absence of a bizarre official pre-launch news statement.
However, this is primarily due to a slew of strange reports circulating that the Pixel 5a had been canceled. This led Google to publish a statement debunking the rumors and stating that the Pixel 5a 5G (yes, it specifically used that term) will arrive around the same time that the Pixel 4a did last year.
A Google official told 9to5Google, “Pixel 5a 5G is not canceled.” “It will be released later this year in the United States and Japan, and will be revealed at the same time as last year’s a-series phone.”
To save you time, last year’s ‘A-series’ was revealed in August (for the 4G model) and September (for the 5G model) of 2020.
However, Google’s announcement did not so much dispel as it shifted the Pixel 5a mystery. It’s worth noting that, in confirming the Pixel 5a 5G’s existence, Google only stated that the phone will be available in the United States and Japan. That’s unusually specific.
So, are we to assume that the Pixel 5a will not be released in the United Kingdom, Australia, or other countries? Is it just that there will be a 5G model as well as a 4G model, and that the two will not necessarily be accessible in the same countries?
It’s a weird state of affairs, to say the least. But then again, 2021 has been a strange year for cell phones.
Google isn’t the only company that takes an unconventional approach to smartphone releases. None other than Samsung, the world’s largest smartphone maker, has basically scrapped its late–2021 flagship range. This year, there will be no Samsung Galaxy Note 21, with the foldable Galaxy Z series taking its place.
We’ve also heard that the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE has been delayed and that it may not even be released at all.
Aside from Samsung, speculations are circulating that the OnePlus 9T Will not be released. In recent years, the brand’s flagship upgrades have been a highlight of the Holiday release calendar, but that may be changing.
Let us not minimize the magnitude of the upheaval. We’re talking about follow-ups to three of the most popular and well-liked phones in the second half of 2020. Four if you include the Pixel 4a and the uncertainties surrounding its replacement.
It’s all too simple to blame someone for all of this strangeness. The Covid–19 epidemic has slowed everything from supply lines to industrial capacity. Simply said, fewer goods are being created, which hasn’t been helped by a global chipset scarcity.
Pixel 5a: there is yet hope
Despite these connections, we are far more optimistic about the Pixel 5a’s chances – and not just because Google has publicly announced that it is still on the road.
While we’d never admit it, there’s an argument to be made that the Galaxy S21 FE, OnePlus 9T, and even the Galaxy Note 21 don’t actually need to exist. With all of their fancy modifications, they’d effectively be half-year revisions of early-year flagships, which sounds a little expensive in these austerity-stricken times.
The Pixel 5a, on the other hand, will be a real yearly upgrade. Despite its allegedly similar look, it will be a true follow-up to an incredibly inexpensive phone with a superb camera that was released a full year ago. That is a smartphone’s natural peak-operational life cycle.
Even though Google doesn’t appear to grasp where it is or how it should be presented, the Google Pixel 5a still has a clearly defined place in this topsy-turvy smartphone industry.
